I am a chartered member (from when I needed help converting a YaBB install to SMF so I could then convert it to IPB due to a direct converter not existing) if you want the beta.

Depends how stable it is.  The last thing I need is to spend hours (it really will take a number of hours...) fixing the DB, only to have a bug in the beta screw things up, meaning i have to spend even more time fixing it :s

I guess I should take a look at the list of changes in 2.0.  Full UTF-8 support from the outset would be nice.

If you want to avoid this situation, I suggest you to reinstall the same version you're using right now, then use a converter once SMF 2 is out (I suppose they'll include an updater).

The data exported by phpMyAdmin should still be valid.

Valid to the extent that it was made invalid by SMF's UTF-8 converter, of course.  You're probably right.
